Programs and Services Offered by Goodwill®

To meet the needs of their local communities, each local Goodwill organization designs its own programs and services to help people find work near where they live. Empowering individuals with developmental disabilities through job training, community involvement, and personal development programs. Goodwill serves individuals by educating, training and placing them into jobs. By becoming gainfully employed, these individuals gain resources to buy the things they need. Many disadvantaged people who are in training or are employed by Goodwill Industries are offered vouchers or discounts at Goodwill retail stores. Helms created the Goodwill philosophy of “not charity, but a chance” when he collected used household goods and clothing in wealthier areas of the city, then trained and hired people who were poor to mend and repair the used goods. The goods were then sold or given to the people who repaired them. Community Impact

If you have a wheelchair or knee scooter you no longer need, donating it to Ohio Valley Goodwill ensures it goes to someone who can put it to good use. More than just a donation, it’s an opportunity to support mobility, independence, and well-being in your community. Goodwill’s annual Power of Work Breakfast recognizes the accomplishments of local individuals who have found personal success through Goodwill and showcases the partnerships we have with so many remarkable businesses and organizations. The annual breakfast event will take place September 30 at 8 a.m. Your donations help fund Goodwill programs serving people in eastern Washington and north Idaho. Every time you donate to Goodwill, you’ll receive a receipt acknowledging the date we received your donation.

As a nonprofit, we use revenue from the sale of donated good to fund free skills training, job placement and support services to people in the very same communities that the donations and revenues were received. Thanks to your donations and your goodwill, you help individuals find a job, and together, through the support of our no-cost career services, we are preparing individuals to achieve self-sufficiency. This helps us to carry on the Goodwill legacy as we work toward ending poverty through the power of work. In addition to our more than 150 local organizations in the United States and Canada, Goodwill has a presence in several other countries. We work with partners and individuals who are dedicated to addressing poverty and unemployment for people with disabilities and other challenges to finding jobs.

You know Goodwill for its retail stores, but do you know where the revenue from the sale of those donated goods ends up? Goodwill Industries Week was first celebrated in May, 1951, as a way for local Goodwill agencies to educate their communities about their mission of “helping people with disabilities help themselves.” This year, we mark the 60th anniversary of Goodwill Industries Week and the power of work. When we sell the stuff you donate, that money helps fund Goodwill programs in eastern Washington and north Idaho. Our programs help people in need live, work, learn, manage their money and connect to needed resources. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to live independently, earn wages and achieve their dreams. Your donations allow us to keep more items out of landfills and positively impact the communities through our programs and services. Military strategy was long described as atheoretical-an art that could only be fully comprehended by military genius. This contention is no longer held, as military staffs, comprised of experts and specialists, are able to formulate strategy aided by minitheories of strategy and a process that takes advantage of collective wisdom rather than singular genius. But the mini-theories of strategy remain underdeveloped and an overarching theory of military strategy does not yet exist. Mini-theories of military strategy, consisting of the five basic military strategies of extermination, exhaustion, annihilation, intimidation and subversion, are woven together into a coherent military strategy theoretical framework.

Careers at Goodwill

Additionally, I expose the principles of war as a myth, instead proffering concepts of employment as the actionable elements of strategy, which are used in the conceptual direction of military means to achieve military objectives in support and amplification of the five basic military strategies. The strategies offered are the result of a comprehensive meta-data analysis, hermeneutical analysis, and comparative metaanalysis of the works of past strategy theorists, rather than the case study methodology employed in most military strategy scholarship. This dissertation provides a baseline theory from which further military strategy hypotheses can be generated and tested in order to advance our understanding of military strategy.
